A special feature of this Dino 308 GT 4 is that, like its predecessor, the Dino 246, it bears the Dino brand name rather than the usual Ferrari logo. Enzo Ferrari had the smaller Ferrari models marketed under the name Dino for several years in memory of his late son Alfredo ‘Dino’ Ferrari. It was not until May 1976 that the Dino brand name was replaced by Ferrari on the 308 GT 4 model. A total of 2,826 Dino 308 GT 4s were built during its six-year production run, with 1,332 of these being the standard Dino 308 GT 4. Later models in the 308 Dino series had slightly less power than the original 188 kW (255 hp).
Exceptionally, the Dino’s bodywork was not designed by Pininfarina but by Bertone, the same designer behind the Lancia Stratos. As a result, the 308 GT 4 also has similar handling characteristics; it is sometimes referred to as the ‘family Stratos’.
